Mr. Arvil Lee Miller, age 80, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (May 3, 2018) at Heritage Hall of Tazewell, Virginia. Born March 12, 1938 in Ashe County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Gordon and Vernie Wingler Miller. He had been a resident of Russell and Buchanan counties for the past fifty-eight years and was a member and deacon at Helton’s Chapel. A member of the UMWA Local 1568, he had formerly been employed as an electrician for Island Creek Coal Company and as a timber cutter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Helen Miller of the home; one son, Michael Miller of Richlands, Virginia; two sisters, Myrtle Stanley of Wilkesboro, North Carolina and Nellie Dixon of Laurel Springs, North Carolina; two brothers, Donald Miller and wife, Betty of Glendale Springs, North Carolina and Bronard Miller and wife, Tempie of Laurel Springs, North Carolina; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia, with Rev. Kenny Taylor and Rev. Denver Barton officiating. Interment will follow in the Helton Cemetery on Stinson Ridge, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Rev. Clarence Yates, James Bower, Ralph McGlothlin, Steve Roten, Jerry James, Jeff James, and Harvey Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Emory James, Rev. Earl Reynolds, Rev. Don Harris, and Lee James.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
