Mr. Roger Lee Helbert, Sr., age 76, of Raven, Virginia passed away Saturday (February 17, 2018) at his home. Born July 3, 1941 in Tazewell County, Virginia he was a son of the late Kelly and Molly Elswick Helbert. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a former employee of Bostic Coal Company and Tommy Fuller Construction. He had a wonderful sense of humor; he loved to laugh, tell stories and listen to bluegrass music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Helbert; four brothers, Lawrence Moore, William Hess, June Moore and Elmer Moore and one sister, Gladys Moore.
Survivors include five children, Anita Dee and husband, John and Cindy Binning and husband, Scott all of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Pamela Sigmon and J.R. Lester of Richlands, Virginia, Randy Helbert and Roger Helbert, Jr. both of Raven, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Jessica Watts of Claremont, North Carolina, Levi Benning, J.C. O’Brien and Scotty Binning all of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cody Sigmon and Nicholas Sigmon both of Hickory, North Carolina and Sally Binning of Chesapeake, Virginia; three great-granddaughters; two sisters, Alice Helbert of Wilmington, North Carolina, Carol Hayes of Tazewell, Virginia; two brothers, Leslie Helbert of Wilmington, North Carolina, Raymond Helbert of Bristol, Tennessee; special friend, Billie Sue Miller and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Richardson officiating. Interment will follow. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Honaker Funeral Home by 1:30 PM to travel in the funeral procession.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Binning, Levi Binning, Brad Sanders, David Keen, Caleb Chaffin, Aaron Lytton and James Keene.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Brown, Michael Miller, John Dee, Scott Binning and J.R. Lester.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home starting at 12:30.
