Mr. Carl “Sammy” Samuel Dye, age 76, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Sunday (February 4, 2018) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born July 20, 1941 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Frank and Dorothea Honaker Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a veteran of the United States ARmy and a disabled equipment operator having been employed by several area companies. In his earlier years, he was an active member of the Honaker Jaycees and enjoyed helping with area youth sports programs. His favorite pastimes were fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Paul Dye, Clarence Dye, James Dye, and Ruby Newberry.
Survivors include six children, Donna Hill and husband, Rocky of Raven, Ricky “Hulio” Dye and fiancée, Christi Lawson of Lebanon, Shelia Compton and husband, Jason, Jimmy “Grub” Dye, Vicki Hall and husband, Mark, and David Dye and wife, Teresa, all of Honaker; one brother, Roy Dye and wife, Hazel of Rosedale; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins and Wayne Damron officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery in the Chestnut Ridge section of Honaker, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Rocky Hill, Jr., Rocky McGlothlin, Shade Ray, Ryhan Hall, Jordon Dye, Ty Hall, Samuel Dye, Trevor Dye, and Colton Compton.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
