Obituary for Virgil Harvey Lester

Mr. Virgil H. Lester, age 72, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Thursday (February 9, 2017) in Abingdon, Virginia. Born April 27, 1944 in Big Rock, Virginia, he was a son of the late Dorsey and Polly Lester. A lifelong resident of the southwest Virginia area, he was of the Freewill Baptist faith. A member of the UMWA, he was a disabled electrician who had formerly been employed by Pittston Coal Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalene Dye Lester, and several siblings.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Lester and wife, Rhonda of Lexington, North Carolina and Rodney Lester of Swords Creek; one sister, Jean Helton and husband, Stuart of Big Rock; one brother, Don Lester of Big Rock; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins and Rev. Ellis Whited officiating. Interment will follow in the Dye Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Dallas Dye, Tommy Dye, Gary Hubbard, Joe Dye, Terry Whited, Tim Whited and Rafty Dye.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Hubbard, Chester Dye, Perry Dye and Billy Lester.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Rodney Lester Healthcare Fund, 1724 Turner Road, Lexington, NC 27292. All donations will be used to help pay Rodney’s medical bills.
