Mr. Earl S. Ball, age 69, of Council, Virginia, passed away Friday (December 30, 2016) at his home. Born January 21, 1947 in Council, Virginia, he was a son of the late Major F. Ball, Sr. and Grace Bostic Ball Keen. He was a lifelong resident of Council, a community in which he was proud to call home. He was a retired coal miner, having been employed in the mining industry for over thirty years. He was a very active member within the county, having worked with Buchanan County Little League for over thirty years, most of which he served as President. He was involved in county politics and was currently serving as the Buchanan County School Board member for the Hurricane District. He was always giving to the Council community whether it was organizing a benefit singing for someone in need, advocating for the kids in the school system, or ensuring that the small community store stay open for the people.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Elmer Keen, ten brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Annie Ball who resides in Maple Grove Rehab facility after suffering from a stroke; three sons, Greg Ball and wife, Pam of Rosedale, Randy Ball and wife, Marcie of Paintsville, Kentucky, Mike Thompson and wife, Tonya of Council; three daughters, Kristy Ball of Anchorage, Alaska, Lisa Crandall and husband, Peter of Spring Lake, North Carolina, and Sandy Hale of Lebanon; five granddaughters, Makayla Ball and Hannah Ball both of Rosedale, Kiara Thompson and Jaiden Thompson both of Council, and Katlyn Viers of Spring Lake; two step-granddaughters, Cassie Burgess and husband, Jason of Paintsville, and Alicia Natarte and fiancé, Tim of Georgetown, Kentucky; one step-grandson, Shea Natarte and fiancée, Ashely of Georgetown; one great-grandson, Carson Viers; three step-great-granddaughters, Addison Burgess, Zelah Natarte, and Milani Natarte; two step-great-grandsons, Jasper Burgess and Kekoa Natarte; five brothers, Harold Ball and wife, Alice of Orlando, Clyde Ball and wife, Burma of Council, Dee Ball and wife, Hilda of Roanoke, Jack Ball and wife, Lorene of Bee, and Don Keen and wife, Joan of Oakwood; four sisters, Helen Stevens and husband, Gobel of Council, Phyllis Sheets of Tazewell, Barbara Davidson and husband, Bimbo of Council, and Joyce Sullivan of Bee; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts, uncles, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Troy Harris and Rev. Dee Ball officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Ron Ball, Jackie Ball, David Stevens, Terry McGlothlin, Darin McGlothlin, Jeff Ball, Gary Ball, and Kenny Bostic.
Honorary pallbearers will be Curt Wilson, Woodrow Presley, Victor Breeding, Joe Owens, Ron Adkins, Chris Davidson, Craig Keen, and Scotty Owens.
The family will receive friends at 5:00 PM Tuesday at the Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
