Mr. Chester Penley, age 76, of Council, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (December 6, 2016) in Johnston Memorial Hospital at Abingdon, Virginia. Born May 9, 1940 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Rufus and Victoria Tiller Penley. A lifelong resident of the Council area, he was a 1962 graduate of Council High School and attended Free Christian Church. He was a retired employee of VDOT Buchanan County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Venella Combs, Imogene Lester, Trula Presley and three infant sisters.
Survivors include one brother, James Penley and wife, Patty of Abingdon; one sister, Fontelle Shortridge of Russell County; two special friends, Edward Tiller and Ronald Tiller; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Wayne Baldwin and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Tiller, Jeremy Mathena, Ronnie Tiller, Ronald Tiller, Tommy Gilbert, and Otto Fletcher.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the Free Christian Church.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
