Obituary for Edward Eugene Stiltner

Mr. Edward Eugene “Papaw” Stiltner, age 80, of Oakwood, Virginia, passed away Monday (October 31, 2016) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born April 23, 1936 in Drill, Virginia, he was a son of the late Bryant and Georgia Hess Stiltner. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Pentecostal faith. A member of the UMWA, he had formerly been employed by Island Creek Coal Company with fifteen years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant son, Paul Stiltner, four brothers, Edgar “Baldy” Stiltner, Estil Stiltner, Arvil Stiltner, and Carl Revis Stiltner, three sisters, Violet Justice, Shirley “Ment” McGlothlin, and Magaline Keene. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Vada Justice Stiltner of home; two sons, Hershel Stiltner and wife, Bell, and Everett “Pete” Stiltner and wife, Janie; one daughter, Beverly Stiltner Leppert; six grandchildren, Jeremy Jackson and Wendy, Joshua McCracken and wife, Nekeisha, Amanda Blankenship and husband, Nathaniel, Lora Beth Shortridge and husband, Cory, Ashley Clifton and husband, Justin, and Richard Stiltner; two great-grandchildren, Monica Clevenger and husband, Chris, and Carly Blankenship; one expected great-grandchild, Wade Clifton; one expected great-great-grandchild, Dakota Clevenger; special friend and caregiver, Burton Stiltner; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jerry Matney officiating. Interment will follow in the Gum Branch Cemetery at Page, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Jackson, Josh McCracken, Richard Stiltner, Burton Stiltner, Freddie Stiltner, and Nathaniel Blankenship.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Justice and Larry Justice.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening service will be conducted both evenings at 7:00 PM with Rev. Anthony Hale officiating.
