Mr. Gerald Thomas Francis, age 77, of the Pine Creek section of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Sunday (August 15, 2016) in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born September 21, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Clarence Francis and Bessie Zamrzla Francis. He had resided in Ohio for many years, having worked at 3-M Company in Cleveland. A United States Coast Guard Veteran, he served for seventeen months. He moved to Honaker, Virginia in 1977 and went to work in the coal mines at Island Creek VP-3, where he worked for seventeen years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by loving wife, Darlene Dye Francis; step-mother, Hester Dye Francis and one brother, Jonny Francis. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Those left to treasure his memory are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Verlin and Joann Dye, Billy and Sue Dye, Jackie and Gay Dye, Jerry and Debbie Dye, Linda and Lacy Musick and Brenda and Rick Hill.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Shortridge officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Monday at the Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM.
