Josephine Hogston Owens, age 87, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (December 11, 2018). Born November 3, 1931 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Lillie Spencer Hogston. She was an avid reader who enjoyed reading her Bible and doing word search puzzles. She was a member of the Bee Branch Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie Owens, one grandson, Joel Ryan Owens, one brother, Eugene Hogston, two sisters, Alice Freeman and Barbara Stevens.
Survivors include eight children, Donnie Owens of Honaker, Virginia, Carl Owens and wife, Betty of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia, David Owens and wife, Jennifer of Pineville, West Virginia, Jeff Owens and wife, Emma of Haysi, Virginia, Calvin Owens and wife, Andrea of Raven, Virginia, Pam Lowe and husband, Tom of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, Inga Smith and husband, Sonny of Saltville, Virginia, and Anna Dixon and husband, Terry of Green Cove Springs, Florida; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two sisters, Delphine Davis and Ocie Beach both of Dismal River, Virginia; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with Elders Roger Coleman, Phillip Estep, Gary Estep, Jackie Yates and James Stacy Officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
