Roger Lee  Matney
Mr. Roger Lee Matney, age 61, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (October 2, 2018) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born April 5, 1957 in Grundy, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Walter and Virginia Tennessee Hunt Matney. A lifelong resident of southwest Virginia, he attended Swords Creek Community Baptist Church. He was a disabled coal miner and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Eric Matney, three brothers, Bobby Matney, Larry Matney, and Jeffrey Dean Matney, and one sister, Geraldine Helton.
Survivors include one daughter, Ashley Matney of Richlands; two brothers, Andy Matney and wife, Renee of Honaker and Jerry Matney; fiancé, Joy Edmondson of Honaker; former wife, Brenda Matney; several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Chester Ball and Rev. Arnold King officiating. Interment will follow in the Matney and Dawson Cemetery at Dismal, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday.
