Mr. James Edward Horton, age 94, of Blountville, Tennessee formerly of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (August 28, 2018) in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Born February 13, 1924 in Swords Creek, Virginia, he was a son of the late James William and Mahalia Barrett Horton. A World War II veteran, he had served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Swords Creek Community Baptist Church and attended Charity Baptist Church. He was formerly a self-employed truck driver and enjoyed traveling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Runyon Horton, one son-in-law, John Meade, and one brother, William Horton.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Musgrove and husband, Ronnie of Roanoke, Linda Compton and husband, James of Rosedale, and Donna Meade of Blountville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Kevin Compton and wife, Connie, Kim West and husband, Greg, Patrick Meade and wife, Erin, and Andria Murphy and husband Robert; three siblings, Harry Horton and wife, Sally, Shirley Dye and husband, Don, and Roger Horton and friend, Rolf; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the physicians and staff at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Charles Brooks and Bro. Les Ritchie officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by American Veterans’ Honor Guard and DAV Chapter 31 of Tazewell County, Virginia.
The Fallen Warrior Motorcycle Honor Guard will be serving as pallbearers as well as escorting the funeral procession.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Friday.
