Obituary for Roy James Arwood

Mr. Roy James Arwood, age 76, of the Belfast section of Russell County, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (June 13, 2018) at his home. Born November 17, 1941 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Tim and Rose Short Arwood. Upon graduating from Garden High School, he joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War receiving a Purple Heart along with other honors. A disabled and retired coal miner, he had been employed by Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a host of brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Joyce Arwood of the home; two children, Debbie Arwood of Belfast and Jeff Arwood and wife, Thelma of Rowe, Virginia; three grandchildren, Chaz Miller, Maelyn Smith, and Conner Smith; one brother, Rev. Arvil Arwood and wife, Virginia of Rowe; grand-dog, Coco; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by American Veterans’ Honor Guard and DAV Chapter 31 of Tazewell County, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Keen, David Hess, Leslie Keen, J.C. Steffey, Chris Hess, and Steve Dye.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
