Mr. James Alan Scott Boyd, age 69, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (May 14, 2018) in a Johnson City, Tennessee Hospital. Born February 27, 1949 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Clyde James and Vivian Pauline Vencil Boyd. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1968 graduate of Honaker High School and had received his Associate’s Degree from Southwest Virginia Community College. He was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church and had been employed as a Sargent at Blackford Correctional Facility.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Richard Boyd, and one nephew, James Fredrick Boyd.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Karen Boyd of the home; one daughter, Elizabeth Lester and husband, Bobby of Honaker; one brother, Danny Boyd and wife, Pam of Honaker; two sisters, Beverly Paulette Boyd of Lebanon and Teresa Osborne and husband, Kent of Drill; two grandchildren, Lilly Lester and June Lester.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. J.C. Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Gary Barton, Don Baldwin, Jason Dye, Zeke Goodman, Bobby Lester, Kenneth Boyd, Eric Barnhart, Kenny Barnhart, K.D. Cook, Brandon Hale, and Brett Edmonds.
Honorary Pallbearers will be will be Kenneth Boyd, Bobby Lester, and Lanny Hamm.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday.
