Obituary for Rev. Jimmy Helton

Rev. Jimmy Helton, age 60, of Turkey Gap Road, Vansant, Virginia, passed away Sunday (May 6, 2018) in Buchanan General Hospital. Born June 19, 1957 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Earnest and Ruby Pauline Arwood Helton. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1976 graduate of Garden High School. A disabled coal miner, he had formerly been employed by AB & J Coal Company and Jewell Smokeless Coal. He had a passion for serving the Lord and was currently the Pastor of Swamp Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Helton and one sister, Mary Ann Helton.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Shirley Helton of the home; one daughter, Dedra Dotson of the home; four grandchildren, Norman Ray Cole and wife, Stevie, Jimmy Lee Cole, Craig Allen Cole, and Edward Glen Cole; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sue McGlothlin, Carol Cook and husband, Doug, Darlene Dye and husband, Tim, and Charlene Farmer and husband, Donnie; four brothers, Willard Helton and wife, Patty, Billy Helton and wife, Anita, Ralph Helton and wife, Sissy, and Rick Helton and wife, Jeannie; special nephew, Clayton Farmer; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Helton Cemetery on Stinson Ridge, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Tuesday.
