Obituary for Adelene Odell Helton (Austin)

Mrs. Adelene Odell Helton, age 87, of the Stinson Ridge section of Buchanan County, Virginia, passed away Sunday (April 15, 2018) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born October 28, 1930 in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Hampton and Ida Harris Austin. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended Fletchers Ridge Freewill Baptist Church and loved going to church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, working puzzle books, and working in her flowers and garden, but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
IN addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Arnold Helton in 2013, three grandsons, Shannon Musick, Jiles Royce Helton, Jr., and Myron Helton, one daughter-in-law, Draper Robinson Helton, four brothers, Emmitt Austin, Paul Austin, Hurley Austin, and Lee Austin, and one sister, Delaney “Dee” Hess. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include five daughters, Jamie Dale Helton of the home, Ola Gay Stacy and husband, Doug, and Reva McGlothlin and husband, Eddie all of Rowe, Connie Fletcher and husband, Mickey, and Glenda Blankenship all of Honaker; three sons, Jiles Helton of Honaker, Jerry Helton and wife, Bobbie of Rowe, and Timmy Helton and wife, Teresa of Davenport; two sisters-in-law, Inez Honaker and Carol Austin; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of 2nd floor ICU at Clinch Valley Medical Center, Dr. Faisal Chaudhry, and to Jodie Belcher, her nurse from Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dennis McGlothlin and Rev. Troy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Helton Cemetery on Stinson Ridge, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Michael Helton, Ryan Fletcher, Dennis McGlothlin, Justin Helton, Tyler Helton, Joshua McGlothlin and Seth McGlothlin
Honorary pallbearers will be Men of Fletchers Ridge Freewill Baptist Church and Garfield Hess.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Tuesday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Larry Robinson officiating.
