Obituary for Estil Mays Horne

Estil Mays Horne, age 96, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Estil was born in Skeggs, Va., the son of the late Harvey Grey and Bertha Alice Cook Horne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia Coleman Horne. Also preceding him are his sister, Dorothy Cook; daughter-In-law, Patty Horne; and grandson, Mike Keen. He was a coal miner, retiring from Island Creek Coal Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, hunting and fishing, woodworking and spending time at his cabin in Cosby, Tenn. He and his wife spend most of their life in Rowe, Va., moving to Lebanon in 1986 after retirement.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Kennith Horne of Oakwood, Va.; daughter, Helen (Bob) Keen, Lebanon, Va.; granddaughter, Jennie (Larry) Shortridge, Rowe, Va.; grandsons, Kenny (Melissa) Horne, Oakwood, Va. and Bobby (Lee Anne) Keen, Chunchula, Ala.; great-grandsons, Jacob (Kari) Shortridge, Jeffersonton, Va., Matthew (Ashley) Shortridge, Woodbridge, Va., and Austin Keen, Chunchula, Ala.; great-granddaughter, Ashleigh (Joseph) Pope, Chunchula, Ala.; great-great grandson, Reid Walker Shortridge; and great-great granddaughters, Blakely Grey Shortridge, Nataleigh, Remi and Kambreigh Pope. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Ballad Health Hospice, especially Christina, Jessica, and Nikki.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with the Rev. Danny Altizer and Rev. Kenny Horne officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Keen, Kenny Horne, Larry Shortridge, Jacob Shortridge, Matthew Shortridge, and Jimmy Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Keen, Raymond Horne, Richard Jones, Bobby Martin, and CK (Sparky) Parker.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 6 p.m.
