Obituary for Floyd "Pood" Griffith

Mr. Floyd “Pood” Griffith, age 97, of the Maple Gap section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Sunday (March 11, 2018) at his home. Born July 8, 1920 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Marion and Georgia Ray Griffith. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a United States veteran and a disabled coal miner. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Perkins Griffith, one daughter, Corine Palmer, one son, Bobby Griffith, three sisters, Mildred Miller, Sue Miller, and Loney Breedlove, and three brothers, Herbert Griffith, Leonard Griffith, and John Fay Griffith.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Griffith and wife, Joan and Lewis Griffith and wife, Mary all of Swords Creek; two daughters, Delores Hess and husband, James and Phyllis Ray and husband, Jimmy all of Swords Creek; grandchildren, Kenny Palmer, Michelle Palmer, Tim Ray and wife, Terry, Kim Fields and husband, Gary, Beth Griffith, Jamie Hess and wife, Samantha, Scottie Griffith, Denise Watson, Mendy Smith and husband, Mickey, Missy Hughes, Sherry McGlothlin and husband, Rick, Joanie Dales and husband, Dennis, and Tina Griffith; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Yates, Isaac Griffith, Donald Jim Rickman, Cody Cochran, Sandra Watson, Megan Ray, Ethan Ray, Travis Palmer, Courtney Charles, Lucas Palmer, Emma Hess, Skylar Fields, and Peyton Hess; great-great-grandson, Conner Cochran; one sister, Juanita Bostic of Maryland; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Legacy Hospice and their staff including, Debbie, Beth, Jamie, and Becky for all of their support and loving care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dennis White officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Dales, Jamie Hess, Isaac Griffith, Travis Palmer, Gary Fields, and Ed Messick.
Honorary pallbearers will be Peyton Hess, Lucas Palmer, Ethan Ray, Skylar Fields, and Donald Jim Rickman.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Tuesday.
