Mrs. Helen D. “Tot” Honaker, age 86, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (March 1, 2018) in a Bristol, Virginia nursing facility. Born August 3, 1931 in Dickenson County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Stella Deel Sauls. A lifelong resident of the southwest Virginia area, she was a member of the Primitive Baptist Concord Church and Finney Senior Citizens. She had formerly been employed as a seamstress at both Lebanon Apparel and Honaker Mills, and a cook at Blackford Correctional Facility. She enjoyed cooking for others and always made everyone feel at home, but her greatest enjoyment was spending time and loving on her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Honaker, one son, Stafford Honaker, and six siblings. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include three children, Larry Honaker and wife, Midge, Garland Honaker and wife, Wilma, and Barbara Fox and husband, Steve all of Honaker; one daughter-in-law, Terry Honaker of Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, Robert Honaker, Susan Riddle and husband, Joe, Noah Honaker and wife, Sarah, Matthew Honaker, Jennifer Cruey and husband, Danny, William Fox and wife, Tara, John Fox and wife, Gina, Larrina Casey and husband, Richard, Harvey Honaker and wife, Tonya, Sarah McGlothlin and husband, Josh, and Ashley Lester and husband, Matthew; two sisters-in-law, Inez Honaker and Betty Sauls; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren “Mommaw’s Little Darlings”, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of NHC and Caris Hospice Care for all their kindness and support.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Elders Ben Combs, Ked Stacy, and Henry Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Pallbearers will be Robert Honaker, Harvey Honaker, William Fox, John Fox, Danny Cruey, Josh McGlothlin, Matthew Lester, and Joe Riddle.
Great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Friday at the Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
